Using NCSA Telnet with MacTCP, users can run
programs that generate 2D output (either single
files or a series of animation images) on a remote
host (eg, a Cray) and route the output back to
DataScope on the Macintosh for viewing and
additional operations. In addition, subroutines
residing on the remote host can be used to process
DataScope datasets on the Macintosh via the
DataScope notebook. Refer to the manual for
details of the mechanics of this operation.
DataScope's welcoming dialog informs the user
as to whether the networking functionality
can be used: if so, the message reads "Network
Enabled"; if, for any reason, the networking
capability will not work, the message reads
"Network Disabled".
If the network is disabled, DataScope's other
features work as they should: the user simply
cannot use the networking capabilities of the
program.
